Hi there, it’s Marissa and Bell, and we’re stoked to welcome you to
Little Red Door is owned and operated by Sister Thrifters, Marissa & Bell, whose family roots originate from the Central Coast and have migrated to the Central Valley. Marissa & Bell’s goal was to open a business founded on the philosophy of feeling your best without breaking the bank. It all started in the summer of 2019 and quickly became a reality a few short months later. The idea came to us after spending a long weekend at our mom’s house in the Sierra Foothills where we had successfully completed a “thrift crawl”.
Opening our own business has always been a dream in our family, so it wasn’t something we hadn’t thought of doing. As sisters, we always loved thrifting together.
Oh hi there 🙂 It’s Marissa! You found us!
Here’s a little more about me…
Born in Santa Cruz, I am a California native. I moved to the Central Valley from the Central Coast 4 years ago. I have been teaching Art for the last 12 years & I love what I do! I married my high school sweetheart and we have three beautiful daughters. Being a mom of three, it wasn’t always financially possible for me to dress and feel as good as I wanted. That’s when my sister Bell introduced me to shopping pre-loved. This allowed me the opportunity to afford good quality clothing without the retail price tag. When the idea came to my sister and I to open our very own pre-loved boutique, it wasn’t long before God began to open up all the right doors. LRD began as a pop up boutique the size of a walk-in closet located inside a furniture store. Much to our surprise, it did really well. God has continued to bless us with the opportunity to open our very own store front in the heart of Downtown Turlock and we couldn’t be more excited. Our hope is to continue to help others look & feel good in their own skin and not feel guilty about how much they spent on the way out.
Oh hi there 🙂 It’s Bell. Welcome to my bio!
Believe it or not, clothing and retail fashion is not in my background at all – it’s actually hospitality – life is funny that way! I was born in the Central Valley but raised in Santa Cruz. Most days you’ll find me serving up some yummy coffee or chilling at the beach with my dog Bloo! I went to school for animal science, but always found myself loving customer service. I have been commuting from SC to Turlock for the last 6-8 months as we started this journey together known as Little Red Door. It’s always been a dream of mine to work with my sister and when we found we shared a passion for pre-loved clothing and helping others, everything just fell into place.
I have always had a love of fashion from the past – timeless, elegant silks and classic sweaters meet grungy leathery textures and fun patterns! It’s really true what they say – they just don’t make them like they used to. Growing up in Santa Cruz, I’ve always valued the idea of minimal waste especially with the over-manufacturing of clothing. When I was a senior in high school, I made a pact with myself to only buy secondhand clothing as an act of resistance. I think I’ve done a pretty good job so far and I welcome the opportunity to help others discover the joy of pre-loved clothing.
